Regulation (EU) No 1272/2008, CLP, concerns the classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances and mixtures which are released on the EU market. As of 1 June 2015, chemical products must be labelled in accordance with the requirements of the CLP Regulation.

On 20 January 2009, the Regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures entered into force. It aligns existing EU legislation to the United Nations' Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

The harmonised classification and labelling of hazardous substances is updated through an "Adaptation to Technical Progress (ATP)" which is issued yearly by the European Commission.
