Summary This is far from a perfect comedy, but it does execute the silly but simple buddy cop adventure. This review of the Netflix film Get the Goat does not contain spoilers. The film will be released on the streaming service on March 18, 2021. Get The Goat is ridiculous. It’s a movie that takes an absurd premise and mixes it in with all the usual buddy cop tropes you’d expect.

I thought that the acting was superb, with Jonas and Schnetzer giving some fantastic performances. I really find it… Graham Phillips, as Ellis, the film’s 15-year-old main character, isn’t nearly emotive enough, registering somewhere between Matt Damon and moribund, and that’s even for a character who’s often more mature and conservative than anyone in his family, which includes his live-in father figure, Goat Man, played coolly by David Duchovny. And while, conceptually, GOAT is a surefire hit, it completely misses the mark when it actually comes to putting its plans into action. Oh, yeah, James Franco is in it for like 10 minutes, has the best scene in the film, and subsequently makes everything else look even worse by comparison. The character development in Goat, beyond the two brothers, is minimal but the level of vague ambiguity it creates works perfectly in helping focus attention on their relationship.
